Day 216: The Band - The Band

I’m still out and about, so it’ll be a very short one today. I wanted an album that’s appropriate to listen to when driving through the beautiful west coast of Scotland, so I went for a bit of The Band, more specifically The Band by The Band.

The Band were formed in 1958 under the name the Hawks, playing as a backing band for a rockabilly singer called Ronnie Hawkins. Then, they made a name for themselves supporting Bob Dylan on tour. Afterwards they changed their name to The Band, having been referred to as that by the singers they’d been supporting, so they decided to make it official.

The Band was the group’s second album, released in 1969 to much critical acclaim. It’s Americana-themed folk rock that’s almost made for driving around to. I listened to it on a very dodgy but beautiful one lane road in a storm and it helped keep me chill, I am very un-chill in cars in the best of conditions so it was no mean feat calming me down.

Due to aforementioned issues of our car stereo muffling everything, I don’t think I got the full experience of this album, so I’m going to give it a 9/10 now. I might change that later after I’ve given it a proper go with good headphones. I’ll also update the photo and video for this later, in the meantime please enjoy a photo of a very cool neolithic stone monument.
