Day 404: Kat Mandu – I Wanna Dance
We made it, it’s another Disco Friday, it’s the best day of the week. This time, I thought I’d go for a disco group that I’m completely unfamiliar with, even though I was yearning to listen to a bit more of my guy Giorgio Moroder. As you’ll shortly find, I didn’t really succeed in my task, but at least I tried.

Today’s act is Kat Mandu, a Canadian disco act consisting of Denis LePage and Joe La Greca. The duo was formed in 1978 in Montreal, Quebec, and they only released one album, but they had a hit with “The Break”, which got a lot of play on the club scene in the ‘70s and ‘80s.
I almost never listen to an album that’s as long as this one, a whole hour and 17 minutes, but today I needed a longer background album so I figured I had the time for it, and a background album it was – more often enough, I kind of forgot it was on. The only thing that caught my attention was that occasionally there would be such clunky lyrics that you couldn’t really help but pay attention:
Make your move, move into the groove
So get up, move your body
We′ll make it funky tonight (tonight)
This is the place, to show that you're an ace
So get up, move your body
Let′s make it funky
I thought, hmm, that almost reminds me of Lime, who I reviewed a few weeks ago on Disco Friday and didn’t particularly like. And there’s a good reason for why it sounds so similar: Kat Mandu is also just the two people who were in Lime, but this time under a different name. Reader, I feel a little bit cheated. Granted, it was my mistake, I could have just turned it off and chosen something else when I realised I’m not a fan, but as I said before it’s just so plain that I mostly forgot I was listening to it. Occasionally it’s a little bit catchy, mostly it’s just a bit of a snoozefest.
I’m choosing to believe that the lyrics are so clunky as a stylistic choice, other than that I just don’t have much to say. Fake Name Lime gets a 5.5/10, next week I’ll be back on the Moroder.
